Are you enjoying the beginning of fall? Today I am so far sun is out, weather warm with some humidity. Later today it will not be too pleasant as more thunderstorms come in. Grant you I believe we do need the rain but not in such downpours.

Today I found a very interesting plant – red-kangaroo-paw
This curious plant is call Kangaroo Paw – red. How did it get that name? The flower looks like a Kangaroo Paw.

Types of Kangaroo Paws Plant

There is a new Christmas season plant on the market and its name is the Red and Green kangaroo paws (Anigozanthos manglesii), otherwise marketed as Kanga. Known as the floral emblem of Western Australia, this plant is referred to as reindeer paws in the United States and has unique red and green flower coloration. The cultivar Anigozanthos ‘Bush Emerald’ has similar colored flowers and is generally easier to grow.

Other kangaroo paws worthy of cosseting are:

  • See the source image‘Bush Ranger’ – a drought tolerant cultivar with orange flowers, which can also tolerate mild frosts.
  • ‘Dwarf Delight’ – a long living, frost hardy variety Anigozanthos flavidus or
  • ‘Tall Kangaroo Paw’ – a type that adapts to many types of soil conditions and climates, although still delicate in heavy frost
  • See the source image‘Pink Joey’ – a variety with salmon pink flower spires
